What Is NATE?
When having someone come to your home to provide routine preventive maintenance or a necessary repair on your home comfort system, you need to know that that Technician knows how to do the job correctly. Every successful relationship requires an element of trust and faith; that’s why Comfort Plus Services employs NATE Certified Technicians as part of us being “Your Trusted Source for HVAC.”
North American Technician Excellence (NATE) is the nation’s largest non-profit certification organization for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Technicians spend many hours on the job training and studying to prepare to take the prestigious certification test. To keep their certification up to date, they must complete NATE approved training each year.
Technicians can take the test for installation and/or Service in the following areas:
- Air Conditioning
- Air Distribution
- Heat Pumps
- Gas Heating
- Oil Heating
- Hydronics Gas (service only)
- Hydronics Oil (service only)
- Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
- Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
- Ground Source Heat Pump Installer
- Senior Level Efficiency Analyst
With the constant changes in technology, Technicians need to stay current by keeping updated. NATE provides information, resources, training, and testing so you can have a knowledgeable person taking care of you and your family, and the important components that affect the comfort and health of your home.
Testing is mostly done through an online forum and is administered by a NATE approved proctor and facility. Comfort Plus Services not only employees NATE Certified Technicians, but we are also one of 5070 testing facilities. Our Safety Director, Earl Slacum, has followed the stringent criteria and has maintained CPS as a certified facility and himself as an approved proctor for the last four years.
NATE vision statement – “To develop and recognize professional HVACR technicians.” — “This is as relevant today as it has ever been. Simply put, while there are many qualified technicians in the field, many more are needed. It is still necessary to raise the bar for the good of the industry, and NATE must continue to set the standards and certify the knowledge base for quality HVACR technicians.”
